There are two things that pilots love to do … fly close to the ground … and fly in formation with other aircraft.
The reason being that in both situations, the sensation of speed is at it highest.
Conversely, when you are at 20,000 feet all by yourself the feeling of movement all but disappears.
This video captures the true spirit and excitement of flying low and in formation.
And the music is perfect … I don’t even have to understand any of the words … but it instantly puts me right back in the cockpit with my hand on the stick!
For a number of years I was an airline captain with a major airline, and this video was the first aviation related U tube video I ever saw … and it instantly brought back the high excitement and endorphins I experienced on many occasions in my long flying career.
By the way … when flying close formation like this, when the lead pilot turns away from you you can easily follow him … but, when he turns toward you, you must react instantaneouslyor you will fly right into him. That’s why the lead pilot will often give his wing man a little heads up before turning towards his flight path:)
