A good idea gone terribly wrong
During the 1980 hostage situation in Iraq the United States military came up with the fantastic idea of modifying the huge C-130 aircraft, that usually takes 1,400 feet to take off and 1,300 feet to land, so that it could get in and out of a 350 foot soccer field for a daring hostage rescue mission dubbed code name ‘Credible Sport’.
It was a prime example of American industrial know how … coupled with a can do attitude to attempt the impossible in the space of only a few weeks.
The initial tests were spectacular to say the least.
Unfortunately, human frailty in the form of ‘pilot error’ entered the formula with its characteristically disastrous results.
This video will astonish you with what this gigantic aircraft was able to do.
It is a miracle that none of the crew were killed or seriously injured.
